Made for Microsoft Windows. After downloading, use Windows Explorer to right-click on the file and choose the "Install" option. You should then be able to configure the screen saver from the Display Properties entry in the Windows Control Panel.
Download: 3D Lorenz Attractor (95 KB)
My first attempt at a 3D screen saver, this plots a Lorenz Attractor in 3 dimensional space. Unlike other 3D plots of this strange attractor that I've seen, this one tries to demonstrate the system's sensitivity to initial conditions. It does this by starting with 3 points very close together in the phase space, and then plotting these simultaneously as time progresses. The sudden divergence of the points after a few iterations is a good practical demonstration of the Butterfly Effect.
If all this maths talk is nonsense to you, download it anyway as it looks nice ;-)
You will need Direct3D installed in order for this to work correctly. I think I built this using version 8, earlier versions may be sufficient but if it doesn't work try downloading the latest DirectX version from Microsoft
Download: Sliding Tiles (69 KB)
Splits your screen into several tiles and slides them about at random. Reminiscent of those cheap little plastic puzzles where you have to reassemble the original picture by sliding one tile at a time into the only empty space.
